Kelan Logan-Derench, from Sutton Coldfield, died after falling into a pool in Egypt last November

The death of a five-year-old boy who fell into a swimming pool while on holiday in Egypt was an accident, a coroner has ruled.

Kelan Logan-Derench, from Sutton Coldfield, died after falling into a pool last year on his first holiday abroad.

On 25 November, he was found without his armbands at the bottom of the pool at the hotel where his family had been staying.

The inquest hearing took place on 28 October with a written record later issued.

The record noted that Kelan was on holiday at the Mirette Hotel in Hurghada, on Egypt’s east coast.

After being pulled from the water, he was taken to the El Nile hospital where he was confirmed deceased.

Louise Hunt, senior coroner for Birmingham and Solihull, concluded he died accidentally by drowning.

According to an online fundraising page organised by a friend of the family shortly after he died, Kelan had been on holiday with his mother, elder sister and grandmother and died just one day after they arrived.

The page raised nearly £20,000 to bring his body back to the UK and pay for funeral costs.
