Trump says his son Donald Trump Jr has calmed down since his marriage to Bettina Anderson.
US President Donald Trump said his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, has been a different person ever since marrying Bettina Anderson, joking that the 48-year-old has “calmed down so much” and is now “like a different human being”.
Trump made the comments while speaking to US diplomats and staff at the US ambassador’s residence in Dublin on Friday during his visit to Ireland.“Don's here with a whole group — whole group of family. And he just got married, he's happily married, which is nice,” Trump said. “He's calmed down so much. That's like a good sign. He's like a different human being,” Trump added.
Don Jr married Bettina Anderson in May
Donald Trump Jr and Bettina Anderson got married in May this year.
The couple legally married in West Palm Beach, Florida, on May 21, according to marriage records, before celebrating with family and friends at a private island in the Bahamas.Trump did not attend the Bahamas wedding celebrations. At the time, he said he wanted to be with his son but had to remain in Washington because of the situation involving Iran and other government matters.“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon-to-be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump had said in a Truth Social post.
Trump had also joked about the difficult choice, saying that the timing was not good for him because he had “a thing called Iran and other things”.
Trump jokes about Melania staying in Washington
During his Dublin remarks, Trump also spoke about First Lady Melania Trump, who stayed in Washington for a September 11 remembrance ceremony at the Pentagon.“My wife is here — my wife is here in spirit,” Trump joked.He said he had tried to persuade Melania to accompany him but she pointed out that the trip would take seven hours.Trump recalled her response: “Well, it’s a seven-hour trip. Maybe I'm not that friendly.”He joked that she could simply put on a “Make America Great Again” hat and join him, adding that she had sent her regards.

Bettina Anderson, 39, is a Palm Beach socialite, philanthropist and model who became romantically linked to Trump Jr in 2024. The couple got engaged in December 2025 after dating for roughly a year.Trump Jr previously married Vanessa Trump in 2005. They divorced in 2018 and have five children together. Then Trump Jr was engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle. Trump Jr and Anderson's relationship became increasingly public before their engagement, with Anderson appearing alongside him at various events.The couple's Bahamas wedding was attended by members of the Trump family, including Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump, as well as Trump Jr's five children.
