Amid a major social media debate over Dubai NRIs and whether the Indian government should spend money to evacuate those NRIs who slam India, founder Amrit Shenava faced major trolling as he sided with the NRIs and Dubai and said mocking Dubai NRIs does not make any sense as many of these NRIs are second or third generation NRIs -- they were born in Dubai and it was not their decisn to leave India.
Blasts were reported from Dubai, Doha and Manama as Iran targeted US assets in Gulf. Many social media handles cheered the distress of the Dubai NRIs and mocked them for leaving India.
"My heart goes out to everyone in the UAE. Dubai is home for me as it is the city where I was born and also where I spent my entire childhood and teens. It is deplorable to see people mocking and making jokes about Dubai. This is the time where we figure out how we can help fellow Indians in UAE," Shenava posted.
Shenava came under attack and was called a fake 'Emirati'. "Stick to your coconut oil regime, since that;s very Indiana nd slick," one wrote. Shenava said he was born in UAE and he never claimed to be an Emirati. He moved to the US for his Bachelors and moved to India in 2023 to build a startup. "I did not move to Dubai. I was literally spawned in Dubai, i.e, I was born there. I lived a very comfortable life and had access to the best healthcare system, best education system, best infrastructure and the list is endless. Thanks to the government’s initiative to promote Entrepreneurship and Coding, I was able to build a bunch of apps and even experiment with startup ideas in mt early teens," he wrote replying to those who were calling him a slave, toilet cleaner.
