Bernie Sanders was a 'no' vote for Tulsi Gabbard's confirmation.
Independent Senator Bernie Sanders voted 'no' for Tulsi Gabbard though Gabbard was confirmed in a 52-48 vote as the Director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration. Democrats voted against Gabbard and so did Republican Mitch McConnell and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
"Bernie Sanders voted no on Tulsi Gabbard. What a fraud," right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk posted. Elon Musk commented 'yes' on it as Republicans remembered how Tulsi Gabbard stood by Bernie Sanders when both of them were in the Democrat Party and Gabbard threw her weight behind Sanders as the party's presidential nomination over Hillary Clinton.
It was for Sanders that Tulsi Gabbard went against the party line for which she had to resign from vice chair of the DNC. The 2016 video of Tulsi Gabbard supporting Sanders went viral after Sanders voted a 'no' for Gabbard yesterday.
"There is a clear contrast between our two candidates with regard to my strong belief that we must end the interventionist, regime change policies that have cost us so much. This is not just another issue. This is the issue, and it’s deeply personal to me," Gabbard said at the time.
"As a vice chair of the DNC, I am required to be neutral in Democratic primaries. But I cannot remain neutral any longer. The stakes are too high. That's why today I am endorsing Senator Bernie Sanders to be our next president and commander-in-chief of the United States," Gabbard said as she resigned from the post.
Sanders praised Gabbard's endorsement at the time, saying, "Congresswoman Gabbard is one of the important voices of a new generation of leaders. As a veteran of the Iraq War, she understands the cost of war and is fighting to create a foreign policy that not only protects America but keeps us out of perpetual wars that we should not be in."
Former Democrat operative Evan Barker spoke out against Sanders, saying, "You voted ‘no’ on Tulsi Gabbard today. And I gotta say something to you, because I supported you. I voted for you. I backed you, I canvassed for you. And you voted against Tulsa Gabbard, a woman who did the same. In fact, she did so much more. She basically sacrificed her future and her career in the Democratic Party to back you. And today you voted against her, and for what? Because the Democrats have continued to perpetuate a smear invented by Hillary Clinton that was hoisted upon her because she dared do what was right at the time and back you over Hillary Clinton? Shame on you, Bernie Sanders. I'm breaking up with you forever. Like, forever. We're never, ever getting back together, ever."
