A woman collapsed and died in a GP surgery after waiting days for an appointment, an inquest has heard.

Jaqueline Watkins, 66, from Llanyravon, Torfaen, was feeling unwell at home for several days and contacted her GP practice for an appointment with her doctor.

The mum-of-two was given an appointment later in the week, but collapsed while sitting in the waiting room of Llanyravon Surgery, near Cwmbran, on 18 June.

During an inquest held on Tuesday, Gwent Coroners' Court heard that despite efforts from medical staff, Watkins could not be saved.

Watkins called the surgery earlier in the week but the earliest appointment they could give her was 15:00 BST on Thursday 18 June, the hearing was told.

She attended her appointment and collapsed in a chair at the surgery while waiting to be called.

Her family have raised concerns that there were "missed opportunities" in GP care that need to be investigated.

A post-mortem examination was carried out, but no medical cause of death was given at the brief hearing.

Ms Watkins' family said: "We have many unanswered questions about the advice and care given."

Rose Farmer, area coroner for Gwent, confirmed that an inquest will be held in March next year.
