The crash temporarily closed a stretch of the M73 overnight
Five people, including two children, have been taken to hospital after a 15-vehicle crash on the M73 in North Lanarkshire.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the scene just before midnight.
Two patients were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and two to the adjoining Royal Hospital for Children. A fifth patient was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Three people were also treated at the scene.
The road was closed northbound between Junction 2 Gartcosh and Junction 3 and reopened just before 04:00 on Monday.
The Scottish Ambulance Service said six ambulances and two special operations attended.
