NEW DELHI: In a recent
military operation
against militants in
Pakistan
's
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province
, at least five
terrorists
were killed, while two Pakistani Army
soldiers
, including a Captain, lost their lives. The operation took place in the Hassan Khel area, approximately 35 kilometers west of Peshawar district, following intelligence reports of terrorist presence in the region.
According to the statement released by the Pakistan Army's media wing ISPR, "The troops 'effectively engaged' with the terrorists and killed five of them while injuring three others." Unfortunately, two soldiers, including an Army Captain, were also killed during the operation.
The first quarter of 2024 saw a significant concentration of violence in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, with "At least 92 per cent of all fatalities and 86 per cent of attacks, including those related to terrorism and security forces operations," occurring in these regions, as reported by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) in their 2024 Security Report.
The report further revealed that Pakistan experienced a total of 432 violence-linked fatalities and 370 injuries among civilians, security personnel, and outlaws, resulting from 245 incidents of terror attacks and counter-terror operations. Of the 432 fatalities, 281 were civilians and security forces personnel.
