A six-year-old girl has died and a seven-year-old is injured after being hit by a car in Paisley.

Police Scotland both girls were struck by the vehicle on Johnston Street in the Renfrewshire town at about at 17:30 on Saturday.

Emergency services attended but the youngest girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The seven-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment. Her condition is not known

Police Scotland said an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

Sgt Jack Swindells said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the girl who died. They ask that their privacy is respected at this time."
