A grandfather and granddaughter were blown two miles out to sea in East Sussex while using a kayak and paddleboard.

An alarm was raised at about 13:00 BST on Friday when the pair were 30 metres off the shore near Pevensey Bay

The RNLI's inshore lifeboat was launched from Eastbourne within 11 minutes and they were both brought to safety.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "The prompt 999 call to HM Coastguard from the girl's grandmother meant the volunteer crew was able to reach them before they became too cold or were swept further offshore."
