Elon Musk explained why he's doing what he's doing and why agencies need to be deleted completely.
Elon Musk Thursday hinted that his Department of Government Efficiency will consider deleting entire agencies as part of its clean-up operation as there is no point in leaving the roots of the weed as it will easily grow back. Elon Musk's DOGE has already sounded a death knell to the USAID and published the list of funds it gave to 'ludicrous' causes, and will next bring the hammer on the department of education, and Pentagon -- one by one.
President Donald Trump expressed confidence in Elon Musk and DOGE's rapid action and asserted that there is no conflict of interest and Elon has nothing to gain from this extra work.
Addressing the World Government Summit in Dubai remotely, Elon Musk hinted that cutting down on the agencies will not solve the problem as they will grow back in future administrations; they have to be deleted permanently.
“I think we do need to delete entire agencies as opposed to leave a lot of them behind,” he told the summit audience. “If we don’t remove the roots of the weed, then it’s easy for the weed to grow back.”
“There’s a roughly 450 federal agencies of one kind or another,” he said. “That’s almost an average of two agencies per year since the formation of the United States. I mean how many agencies do you really need to run a country? 99? Not 450, that’s for sure.”
Elon Musk made a surprise appearance at the Oval Office Tuesday and addressed the media along with President Trump. He detailed that some officials of the USAID which they decided to shut down were taking kickbacks and many federal employees managed to accumulate tens of millions of dollars in net worth which is not possible from their government salary. Musk did not offer any evidence though DOGE insiders said they are being very transparent and every evidence is available on their site. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also presented some pieces of evidence during her press conference yesterday.
“We are actually trying to be as transparent as possible,” Musk said. “So all of our actions are maximally transparent. I don’t know of a case where an organization has been more transparent than the Doge organization.”
