‘I kept crying, they held a knife to my neck’: 17-year-old gang rape at Delhi park

NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old girl has recounted a chilling ordeal she allegedly faced inside Delhi’s Aastha Kunj Park on her birthday, telling police that three men threatened her and her friend, claimed to be policemen and allegedly raped her at different locations inside the park, according to the FIR.The girl’s birthday outing had begun with a visit to Kalkaji Mandir. She told police that she had planned to offer prayers at the ISKCON temple later in the evening.According to her statement, she left home in an auto around 5pm and reached Kalkaji Mandir around 5.45pm with a male friend. They stayed at the temple until around 7pm before buying chips and a bottle of water outside Kalkaji Metro Station.The two then entered Aastha Kunj Park through Gate No. 7. The girl told police that she suggested they sit on a bench, eat the chips and then proceed towards the ISKCON temple.‘Asif bhai gun nikal’: Girl recalls moment trio allegedly threatened herThe girl alleged that soon after they sat down, three men aged around 30 to 35 approached them. According to her statement, the men caught her friend and slapped him.When the two asked who they were, the men allegedly claimed they were policemen and questioned them about why they had entered the park, telling them that entry was not allowed.The girl alleged that one of the men took her friend to another side while the accused took away their mobile phones.

Two of them then allegedly pointed towards the bushes and told her to go there.She told police that she became frightened and asked them to speak to her mother if they wanted to question her.According to the FIR, one of the men then said, “Asif bhai gun nikal.”The girl identified Asif as the man wearing a purple shirt and said he was the most heavily built among the three. She alleged that Asif showed her a black-coloured gun before putting it back in his pocket.She further alleged that the men took out knives and led her towards a dark area of the park.‘Held knife to my neck’: Survivor alleges rape at different locationsAccording to her statement, Asif removed her clothes and took her to a red bench. She alleged that he then told Hemu, another accused, to keep watch and ensure that nobody came towards them.The girl alleged that Asif put on a condom, held a knife to her neck and raped her.

She told police that she was crying and experiencing considerable pain.According to the FIR, Asif then threw the condom near the bench and called Hemu, saying he was going to Deepu.The girl alleged that Hemu subsequently took her to another nearby bench, held a knife to her neck and raped her.She further alleged that the third accused, whom the other two called Deepu, also came to the spot and sexually assaulted her while holding a knife to her neck.After the alleged assaults, the girl said the accused told her to get dressed quickly. She alleged that one of them gave her a T-shirt and jeans but did not return her bra.The accused allegedly brought her friend back, returned their mobile phones and ordered them to leave the park. The girl alleged that they threatened to kill them if they told anyone about the incident.The two were then allegedly taken out of the park. The girl told police that she informed her friend about the alleged rape, after which he called the PCR.Police subsequently reached the spot and began an investigation. Further investigation is underway.
