Israeli PM Netanyahu’s son urgently evacuated from US over ‘significant threat’

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s oldest son, Yair Netanyahu, was urgently evacuated from the US to Israel following a “significant threat” against him, Israeli security agency Shin Bet confirmed.The 35-year-old was in Florida when Israeli authorities decided to bring him back to Israel along with his security team following a security assessment. Shin Bet did not disclose details of the threat or identify those behind it.The development comes a week after Netanyahu claimed that Iran had tried to assassinate one of his sons.According to the New York Post, Netanyahu told Israel’s Channel 14 on August 24 that Iran had “targeted” one of his sons and “tried to murder him”.He did not specify whether Yair or his other son, Avner, was the target.Yair moved to Miami in 2023 and has spent much of the time since then in the US, including during Israel’s conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.He has also served as an unofficial adviser to his father and is known for his outspoken posts defending the Israeli prime minister and attacking his critics.Shin Bet has confirmed the threat but has not said that Iran was responsible. The agency had also extended security protection for Yair, Avner and their mother, Sara Netanyahu, beginning in July.
