An 80-year-old man has been released on bail after a woman was shot with what police believe was an air weapon.

Suffolk Police was called by the ambulance service to The Street, Monks Eleigh, which is near Lavenham, at 16:10 GMT on Thursday.

The 83-year-old woman was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge by ambulance where she remained in a condition described as serious but stable.

Police said the man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

His bail conditions mean he must return to police on 27 March.
