Four appliances were sent to tackle the fire on Wednesday evening
A fire in the emergency department of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast has been extinguished.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said they were called to a blaze in the ground floor of the ED at 18:43 BST.
A number of police officers remain at the scene.
The main waiting area and reception are currently closed and patients attending the ED are being directed through a side entrance to a different waiting area.
Four fire appliances were sent to tackle the fire and the NIFRS said the scene was "smoke-logged".
It is not yet known if anyone was injured in the incident.
