Ian Watkins, from Pontypridd, was sentenced to 29 years in jail plus six years on extended licence

A man has pleaded not guilty to murdering disgraced Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins in prison.

Appearing at Leeds Crown Court, Rashid Gedel, 25, denied killing the 48-year-old at the maximum security HMP Wakefield on 11 October.

Gedel, referred to as Rico Gedel during Friday's proceedings, is charged alongside Samuel Dodsworth, 43, with murdering Watkins, who was serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offences.

Dodsworth, who pleaded not guilty at a previous hearing, and Gedel are due to stand trial in May.

Watkins, from Pontypridd in Wales, had risen to fame in the 2000s with Lostprophets, who achieved 11 top 40 UK hits and a chart-topping album.

But in December 2013, he was jailed for a string of child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby.
