People have been urged to avoid Cheadle's High Street

A man has been rescued after falling 30ft (9m) down a well in Cheadle, Staffordshire.

High Street in the market town remains cordoned off following the rescue operation, and the extent of the man's injuries is not yet known.

Staffordshire Police said officers were called to the scene at 08:37 GMT. West Midlands Ambulance Service has also attended the incident.

The county's fire and rescue service earlier warned people to avoid the area and is expected to provide an update shortly.
