American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy on Wednesday said that "massive downsizing" is the only effective way to amend the unlawful behavior of the administrative state. His statement came after
US President-elect Donald Trump
announced that Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and Ramaswamy would lead the "
Department of Government Efficiency
" (
DOGE
).
Trump released an official statement on
Musk
and Ramaswamy leading DOGE on the social media platform X.
"I am pleased to announce that the great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency ("DOGE"). Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies—essential to the 'Save America' movement," the president-elect said.
Quoting Trump's announcement on X, Ramaswamy criticised the administrative state for unlawful behavior, citing the Supreme Court, and called for a significant reduction in its size.
"Over the last two years, the Supreme Court has ruled that the administrative state is behaving in wildly unlawful ways. But slapping the bureaucracy on the wrist won’t solve the problem; the only right answer is massive downsizing," Ramaswamy said on X.
Trump said that he looked forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the federal bureaucracy with a focus on efficiency, while also improving life for all Americans. He stressed that they would work to eliminate the massive waste and fraud present in the annual $6.5 trillion of government spending.
"Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual $6.5 trillion of government spending. They will work together to liberate our economy and make the U.S. government accountable to 'WE THE PEOPLE.' Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026—a smaller government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th anniversary of The Declaration of Independence. I am confident they will succeed!"
Trump
said in a statement on X.
Elon Musk, on the other hand, said that all actions of the Department of Government Efficiency would be posted online for maximum transparency. He encouraged the public to notify them if they believed something important was being cut or something wasteful was being overlooked.
"All actions of the Department of Government Efficiency will be posted online for maximum transparency. Anytime the public thinks we are cutting something important or not cutting something wasteful, just let us know! We will also have a leaderboard for the most insanely dumb spending of your tax dollars. This will be both extremely tragic and extremely entertaining," Musk said in a post on X.
