Matt Gaetz said he did wild things when he was single but nothing criminal.
After a shocking secret vote which favored the publishing of the investigation report into Matt Gaetz's alleged sexual misconduct, the former Rep Wednesday admitted that his 30's were an embarrassing period as he used to be a womanizer, did a lot of partying, drinking and smoking but he asserted that whatever he did had nothing criminal in it. The complaints against Matt Gaetz came during the end of Donald Trump's first term. The Department of Justice did not press any charge against him but allowed the ethics panel to continue its investigation into the allegations against Matt Gaetz.
Days before that investigation report was to be published, Matt Gaez resigned from Congress as he was nominated as the attorney general of the incoming Trump administration. But the controversy went on and he had to withdraw his nomination as Trump replaced him with Pam Bondi, the new attorney general pick.
Matt Gaetz is not a member of Congress now but the ethics committee has secretly voted to release its report before the end of the year.
Two women brought the allegations against Gaetz and said they got $10,000 payment for sex from Gatex between 2018 and 2019. At that time, one of the women was allegedly 17 years old. Gatez paid them theorugh apps and also from an account belonging to Nestor Galban whom Gaetz calls his "adopted son".
'I was charged with nothing'
Gaetz referred to the DoJ investigation against him and said he was fully exonerated by the DoJ. "Not even a campaign finance violation. And the people investigating me hated me. Then, the very “witnesses” DOJ deemed not-credible were assembled by House Ethics to repeat their claims absent any cross-examination or challenge from me or my attorneys. I’ve had no chance to ever confront any accusers. I’ve never been charged. I’ve never been sued," Gaetz said.
'When I was single...'
Referring to the period before his marriage with Lucky Gaetz in 2022, Matt said he sent funds to women he dated but never had sexual contact with someone under 18. "In my single days, I often sent funds to women I dated - even some I never dated but who asked. I dated several of these women for years. I NEVER had sexual contact with someone under 18. Any claim that I have would be destroyed in court - which is why no such claim was ever made in court," he wrote.
"My 30’s were an era of working very hard - and playing hard too."
"It’s embarrassing, though not criminal, that I probably partied, womanized, drank and smoked more than I should have earlier in life. I live a different life now," he wrote.
