A 14-year-old boy charged with murder has appeared in court following the discovery of a missing teenage girl's body.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Cardiff Crown Court on Monday morning accused of murdering Lilly Jones, also 14.
The boy from the Blaenau Gwent area, appeared in Cardiff Crown Court on Monday for a hearing lasting 21 minutes. He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
He was arrested after a body was found in Duffryn Park in Blaina, Blaenau Gwent, on June 22.
Wearing a short-sleeved white shirt, he was flanked by three prison custody officers and a supporting adult, and his mother blew him a kiss as he left the dock.
He was remanded into secure youth accommodation, with another hearing set for 24 July and a four-week trial scheduled to begin on 23 November.
Police are yet to formally identify the body of the teenage girl as Lilly, who had been reported missing.
On Monday the headteacher at Brynmawr Foundation School, where she was a student, said staff were "deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of one of our pupils, Lilly Jones".
Gerard McNamara said Lilly was known "for her kindness, warmth and bubbly personality".
"Her loss will be felt profoundly by students, staff, and all who knew her," he said in a statement.
"Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
McNamara added that the school was providing support to pupils and staff who have been affected.
