X filed a federal defamation suit on Monday against Media Matters for America.
The suit accuses the media watchdog group of kicking off an advertiser exodus of companies like Disney and Apple with a “harmful” article alleging the social network let top brands display ads near antisemitic and pro-Nazi posts.
The liberal-leaning media observer allegedly curated a feed specifically with fringe accounts and those belonging to corporations like IBM, Comcast, and Oracle, then displayed pairings of ads from those companies next to antisemitic content in a critical article, according to the lawsuit.
Last week, Media Matters published what it described as the results of an analysis of X advertisements, showing the pairings of big name brands and right-wing content, and alleging that X owner Elon Musk was increasingly engaging in a “descent into white nationalist and antisemitic conspiracy theories.”
