Following this development, the PML-N has scheduled a general council meeting in Lahore on May 28 to elect a new president.

Initially, the party had planned to hold this meeting on May 11, as per reports by ARY News.
Rana Sanaullah, in a recent press conference, disclosed that the Punjab chapter of PML-N has urged Nawaz Sharif to resume the party presidency, emphasizing his leadership's significance for the party's accomplishments. He highlighted that during the PML-N Punjab meeting, a resolution urging Nawaz Sharif to lead the party again during this challenging period was passed.
Following his conviction in 2018, Nawaz Sharif was disqualified from holding any public office. However, the Islamabad high court (IHC) acquitted him in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references on November 29 and December 12, respectively. Subsequently, he contested the General Elections 2024 and emerged victorious from NA-130 Lahore.
