Twitch streamer Pokimane has shared details about the heartbreaking death of her cat Mimi, who died after falling from a balcony. The streamer said the accident happened after cleaners opened her balcony door and left its screen door open.
Mimi had been part of her life for eight years, making the loss deeply painful. After sharing the news, Pokimane faced questions and criticism online, prompting her to explain what happened. She also made it clear that she did not want to blame anyone for the tragic accident.
Pokimane reveals how Mimi’s balcony fall led to her tragic death
Pokimane explained that she had always taken steps to keep her cats safe on balconies. In a post on X, she said she had used bird spikes and plastic covers to protect every balcony in her previous homes.
However, the building she currently lives in did not allow her to install these safety measures.
She also explained that her balcony door had a bug screen to stop insects from entering her home. According to Pokimane, the cleaners opened the balcony door to let fresh air inside, not to clean the balcony. She said she had never asked them to clean that area.Pokimane added that the cleaners did not close the screen door after opening it.
A few minutes later, Mimi stepped out onto the balcony and fell.The streamer said she learned that Mimi had been taken to an emergency room while she was live-streaming Valorant on September 28. She quickly ended the broadcast and rushed to the vet. Sadly, the doctor told her that Mimi had not survived.Pokimane later returned to her stream and became emotional while speaking about her cat. She said, “I can't believe my baby is gone,” and described Mimi as her beloved pet.
Pokimane addresses online criticism and calls it a freak accident
After sharing the news, Pokimane posted another message on X to explain the circumstances of Mimi’s death. She said she should not have to clarify details while grieving, but decided to speak out because some people online were making negative comments.
Pokimane explained that she had taken safety steps in her previous homes and that the current building’s rules had prevented her from using the same balcony protections.
She also clarified that the cleaners had opened the door to let in a breeze, rather than to clean the balcony.Despite the painful loss, Pokimane said she did not want to blame anyone.
