A police officer has been injured after a driver "intentionally" hit him with a car, a force has said.
Wiltshire Police said the officer had left his car to speak to the occupants of a parked vehicle in a field near Devizes on Saturday morning.
However, they would not speak to him and drove off, colliding with the officer.
Duty Sup Conway Duncan said: “This is a significant incident where an officer undertaking their duties has intentionally been injured by the driver of the vehicle."
The force explained the officer was on mobile patrol in a marked police car in Conscience Lane, travelling from Rowde towards Devizes, at about 11:30 BST when he spotted the vehicle.
Despite his efforts to speak to those inside, the driver started to leave the location, intentionally hitting the officer.
He was injured and taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged to continue his recovery at home.
