Police station target of 'serious' security alert

A police station is at the centre of a "deeply concerning" security alert in Lurgan, a Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) MP has said.

Police have said that a number of roads in the County Armagh town remain closed on Tuesday morning following an alert on Church Place.

Carla Lockhart said about 100 homes have been evacuated as a result of the alert and that a controlled explosion has taken place.

"This is not something anyone wants to see in our society today," the MP said, adding: "The situation is deeply concerning, and I would strongly urge anyone who may have any information to come forward."

She added that Lurgan Town Hall has been opened for residents who have been moved out of their homes.
