A music festival in Utsjoki, Finland, is bringing together rap artists from across the region, including performers using the Indigenous Sámi language.

Rapper Yungmiqu, also known as Mihkku Laiti, founded the event in Utsjoki to share Sámi culture through music. He performs in Sámi, a language spoken by Europe’s only recognised Indigenous people.

Despite changing weather in the fells, audiences gathered late into the night under the midnight sun on 6 July. Performers from across Lapland took the stage, mixing rap, folk and even tango.

Held near the Arctic Ocean and just across the river from Norway, the festival offers a rare stage for Sámi voices in contemporary music.
