PM Modi meets Elon Musk in Washington (X: @narendramodi)
During his two-day visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with tech giant and the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, on Thursday. The discussion with the Tesla CEO covered key topics such as "space, technology, and innovation." This high-profile meeting took place ahead of PM Modi's scheduled talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
PM Modi's itinerary included engagements with several key figures, including the US director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, US national security advisor (NSA) Michael Waltz, and Indian-American Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy.
After his conversation with Musk, PM shared on X: “Had a very good meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘

Elon Musk is currently playing a significant role in the Trump administration, overseeing the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (
DOGE
).
Ahead of the Modi-Trump meeting, a White House official mentioned that India’s early signals on trade had been positively received by the Trump administration, raising hopes for progress toward a “solidified fair” bilateral
trade agreement
by 2025.
Technology collaboration
was also highlighted as a key area of focus, with anticipated discussions on semiconductors, critical minerals, and supply chain resilience. The official confirmed that announcements in these areas would further solidify India-US cooperation on emerging technologies.
On the geopolitical front, the US views India as a crucial player in its
Indo-Pacific strategy
and regional stability, with a potential role in facilitating peace in Europe.
The official added that President Trump is looking forward to discussing diplomatic efforts related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict with PM Modi. Additionally, the strong personal rapport between Prime Minister Modi and Trump was emphasised, citing their past public engagements and mutual respect.
