Hours after a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump dialed his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday.
In a "meaningful conversation," Trump and Zelenskyy discussed ways to end Russia's nearly three-year invasion of Ukraine. This conversation came hours after Trump's call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sharing the details of his conversation with Trump, Zelesnkyy said that no one more than Ukraine wanted peace in the country and reiterated the US President's words "let’s get it done."
"I had a meaningful conversation with @POTUS. We long talked about opportunities to achieve peace, discussed our readiness to work together at the team level, and Ukraine’s technological capabilities—including drones and other advanced industries. I am grateful to President Trump for his interest in what we can accomplish together," Zelenskyy said.
"We also spoke about my discussion with @SecScottBessent and the preparation of a new document on security, economic cooperation, and resource partnership. President Trump shared details of his conversation with Putin. No one wants peace more than Ukraine. Together with the US, we are charting our next steps to stop Russian aggression and ensure a lasting, reliable peace. As President Trump said, let’s get it done. We agreed to maintain further contact and plan upcoming meetings," he added.
Trump had also posted about his call with Zelenskyy on his Truth Social account and said like Putin, the Ukrainian President is also hoping for peace and added, "It's time to stop the ridiculous war where there have been massive, and totally unnecessary deaths and destruction"
Earlier, Trump dialled Putin and held a "lengthy and highly productive," during which they agreed to begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine "immediately."
According to the Kremlin, the conversation lasted 1.5 hours, with both leaders agreeing that "the time has come to work together."
"We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, the power of the Dollar, and various other subjects. We both reflected on the Great History of our Nations, and the fact that we fought so successfully together in World War II, remembering, that Russia lost tens of millions of people, and we, likewise, lost so many! We each talked about the strengths of our respective Nations, and the great benefit that we will someday have in working together," the US President said.
Trump further stated that he and Putin will "work together, very closely" on resolving the conflict. "we both agreed, we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine. President Putin even used my very strong Campaign motto of, “COMMON SENSE.” We both believe very strongly in it," he added.
