US President Joe Biden has spent 532 days vacationing in less than four years, a staggering amount compared to the average American who would need nearly 48 years to accumulate the same amount of
vacation time
, given the standard 11 days of annual leave.
The New York Post reported that Biden spent 40% of his first 957 days in office on personal overnight trips away from the
White House
.
Recent reports indicate that Biden has been on
vacation
for "16 straight days" during his current stay in
Rehoboth Beach
, Delaware.
Former general counsel of the White House budget office under Donald Trump Mark Paoletta criticised Biden’s frequent absences, saying, “The image of Biden fast asleep and lying flat on his back in his chair at the beach while America and the world is on fire will define the Biden
presidency
.”
Paoletta highlighted various issues he believes Biden has neglected, including inflation, high prices, border security, and global instability.
Biden's vacation time far exceeds that of his predecessors. Former President Donald Trump spent about 26% of his presidency on personal trips, while Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama each took vacation for approximately 11% of their two-term presidencies. Jimmy Carter, who served a single term, took only 79 days off.
Biden's low public profile since late July may be linked to dissatisfaction among fellow Democrats, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who allegedly urged him not to seek re-election.
While presidential aides argue that Biden, like his predecessors, works remotely and remains on call during his vacations, public images of him relaxing on Rehoboth Beach have sparked debate about the balance between presidential duties and personal time off.
