JD Vance on once comparing running mate to Hitler

Ohio Senator

JD Vance

addressed his previous criticisms of former President Donald Trump at the

vice presidential debate

, saying that he was "wrong about Donald Trump.” His remarks come as he now stands as Trump’s running mate on the

Republican ticket

, a significant shift from his earlier stance.
Vance faced questions about his past comments, which included labeling Trump an “idiot” and “reprehensible,” and even making a controversial comparison to Adolf Hitler.

Acknowledging the inconsistency, he highlighted the positive outcomes of Trump’s presidency, noting that Trump “delivered for the American people” in ways Vance hadn’t anticipated.
While Vance recognized that the

Trump administration

was not flawless, he expressed a desire to contribute to improving governance moving forward.
“When you screw up, when you misspeak and when you get something wrong and you change your mind, you are out to be honest with the American people about it. One of the reasons why I have done so many interviews about it is that I think it is important to explain to the American people where I come down with the issues and what changed," Vance said.

“I think there were a lot of things that we could've done better in the Trump administration in the first round if Congress was doing its job,” he added.
JD Vance, once a vocal critic of Donald Trump, has now been selected as the former president's running mate for the upcoming election. In the past, Vance had expressed strong disapproval of Trump, calling him "dangerous" and "unfit" for office.
Vance, whose wife, lawyer Usha Chilukuri Vance, is Indian American and the mother of their three children, also criticized Trump's racist rhetoric, saying he could be "America's Hitler."
