A woman who claimed to be missing Madeleine McCann has been charged with four counts of stalking.
Julia Wandel, also known as Julia Wandelt, was arrested at Bristol Airport on Wednesday on suspicion of stalking involving serious alarm and distress.
Ms Wandel, who is originally from Poland, was remanded in custody to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court later.
The 23-year-old claimed to be missing Madeleine McCann in an Instagram post in 2023, saying she has "gaps in her memory" of childhood after suffering abuse.
Madeleine McCann's disappearance at the age of three in Portugal in 2007 is one of the most widely reported missing child cases in history and remains unsolved.
Ms Wandel took a DNA test in 2023 that revealed she was from Poland, with some Lithuanian and Romanian heritage. In other words, she is not Madeleine McCann.
Two of the stalking charges relate to alleged offences between 2 May 2024 and 15 February this year.
Wandel has also been charged with a further count of stalking between 3 January and 21 April 2024.
A fourth count relates to alleged offences between 27 November and 29 December 2024.
A 60-year-old woman from Wales, who was also arrested alongside Ms Wandel on suspicion of stalking, has been released on bail, Leicestershire Police added.
